Isaiah 64.3-4 says— “When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence. For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
Necessity would be an understatement when it comes to the need of God’s people. The call for God’s intervention, by God’s people, is as urgent now as it was in the time of Isaiah. There is now, as there was then, as there has been at all times, only a few who seek after God with all their hearts. But, if we look at ‘Christianity’ as a whole, there is infinite cause for beseeching God to rend the heavens and come down.
Do we even see ourselves in such a predicament that without a special intervention of Jehovah, nothing will work. Or, are we so inundated with this present age that we no longer see the need for a holistic upheaving change. I put no trust on the so-called ‘christian’ group of modern age to see the difference. It is my belief that unless God comes down “as when the melting fire burneth… to make His name known to His adversaries” (Isaiah 64.2), our work will remain relatively fruitless comparatively to what could be.
When we survey the culture of churches as a whole, even those of a conservative focus, it’s staggering the volume of ‘man wisdom’ that floods not only the lives of members, but also the pulpits. Where is a manifestation of the Spirit and Power Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 2.4— “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:” The opposite is true. We see much too heavy of an “enticing words” kind of message today. It’s as if we need to convince people rather than allow God to do the convincing. If only we wouldn’t rest in our wisdom or power, our words and one-liners, but seek God.
When will we realize there is power in waiting on Him (Isaiah 64.4). Look no further in the membership of just about any church. There is unity at points, but not as it is a whole. There is only one way we achieve unity in a local assembly— submission. One to God, then to each other. Do you have any cool tricks to use to get people to get along? It wont work. I mean, it may for a week or two, but no more. People are by nature selfish. We need to mortify the deeds of the flesh and dig deep in the Spirit. There is life and love there. In the Spirit of God is liberating liberty. We can finally be free of selfishness and pride which is competitive and seeks to divide worse than before. But to be one, really one, is a thing only achieved by submission. What if people won’t? Good question… same answer, wait on the Lord (Isaiah 64.4).
If God would just show up, He would make it right. Is that really your heart? Do you see Him as not just the final, but the only solution? How bad does it have to get in and outside of church before we begin to cry unto Him? We must actively wait upon God. And what for? We may cry, with a cry that never rests, “Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens…and come down, that the mountains might flow down by thy presence” (Isaiah 64.1). We must desire and believe, we must ask and expect, that God will do the things we didn’t even know needed to be done. It’s time to wake up. It’s time to put this back ‘on our radar’ so to speak. We must set our affections on Him. Seek Him with literally all of our heart!
Do you still believe He can? Do you want Him to? Can He do it? Will He do it? I want to be found on my knees when He returns… crying my heart out to Him for others to come to Christ, for His assembly where Im at to unite and seek souls. I want to be found with words of supplication on my lips for lost souls and unrepentant believers. I want others to hear me from a block away… until He “[comes] down, the mountains flowed down at [His] presence” (Isaiah 64.3). He is and always will be THE supply. I need some, how about you?
God is still able “to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think” (Ephesians 3.20).
